In the past, any individual desirous of acquiring a vocation would join an established expert as an apprentice. The period of apprenticeship was one where the individual offered his or her services for free to the expert and learn more about the trade or vocation in return.

Times have changed and each and every child is expected to acquire certain educational qualifications before thinking of a career. No longer are six and seven year old children expected to join the trade that they wish to participate in the future. However, the concept of apprenticeship has not been done away completely.

Today, students often join offices in fields that they intend to specialize in as interns. Students join with a view of learning more about the practical aspects of their work. Some internship pays while most do not offer any remuneration. The knowledge that one gains is considered sufficient remuneration. The individual is expected to put in eight to ten hours a day helping the experts in their day to day activities.

When planning your internship you should focus on two primary aspects-internships that boost your resume and internships that boost your skills. You must be practical and must focus on both aspects simultaneously. As far as internships that boost your resume are concerned, you should focus on high profile internships with organizations that are recognized by all. However, you will not learn the intricacies of your area of expertise in such big organizations.

It makes sense to focus on internships with compact organization where you can request more responsibilities by proving yourself. This will help secure the best possible jobs after graduation.
